Wet Strenght Resins
At first Diethylenetriamine is converted with a dicarboxylic acid (for example Adipic Acid) into a polyaminoamide. The polyaminoamide is subsequently cross-linked with Epichlorohydrin. The resin gives mechanical strength to the paper tissue under wet conditions however, the absorbability of the paper is not affected.
Hot-filter paper is an example in which a wet strength resin at higher temperatures is attained. Wet-strength resins are merely applied in the paper and pulp industry. Specific uses can be found in:
- baby diapers
- toilet paper
- tissues
